It is still raining in Texas. Some areas will have been soaked with 50 inches of rain since Hurricane Harvey made landfall on Friday. Because of the severity of the storm, the IRS announced today that affected taxpayers in Texas will receive tax relief.
The IRS is giving affected taxpayers until Jan. 31st, 2018 to file most tax returns that have either an original or extended due date occurring on or after August 23rd, 2017 and before Jan. 31, 2018. According to irs.gov, “Taxpayers considered to be affected taxpayers eligible for the postponement of time to file returns, pay taxes and perform other time-sensitive acts are those taxpayers listed in Treas. Reg. § 301.7508A-1(d)(1), and include individuals who live, and businesses whose principal place of business is located, in the covered disaster area.” To learn more read the entire press release here.
